33rd CAC Codex Committee on Fish and Fishery Products
From Feb 17th to 21st, 2014, deputy general manager of Hangzhou Qiandaohu Xunlong Sci-tech Co. Ltd. Xiao Yongtao attended the 33rd CAC Codex Committee on Fish and Fishery Products in Norway representing Chinese sturgeon enterprises. The sturgeon caviar processing operation norm (step 3) was discussed on the meeting. After the meeting Xia also applied for participation in the e-group of drafting the norm.
Codex Alimentarius Commission was founded by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Health Organization (WHO) in 1963 with a commitment to protect consumers’ health, promote fair food trade and coordinate food standard among nations. 327 standards, rules, and operation norms were established during its 50 years of history, which have become the only food standards recognized internationally.
As caviar output of China is accounting for more of a portion in the world, the international competition will increase. Being the flagship in the Chinese sturgeon industry, Xunlong participated in drafting industry norm, grasping more power of say on behalf of Chinese enterprises, and showing the government’s support to the development of sturgeon industry.
